Peels
Conveniently located to serve the areas of San Diego, CA
Rejuvenating your skin with chemical peels is one of the most effective ways to improve the tone and texture of your skin. The topical treatment can reduce fine lines, wrinkles, or acne scars for a brighter, youthful-looking complexion. They are an excellent option for achieving more radiant skin naturally by exfoliating the skin and removing debris. Thousands of patients have benefited from peels; in 2023, specialists performed more than 3.5 million skin resurfacing treatments to help patients enhance their complexion. (1)

About Peels
As you age, the collagen and elastin–proteins in your skin that help it maintain its structure–begin to decline, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, laxity, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. Chemical peels can address sun-related skin aging (photodamage) by rejuvenating your skin at a cellular level. In a recent study, more than half of the patients who received deep peels noticed a 51% reduction in acne scarring. (3) Depending on the condition of your skin, we offer several different types of peels to refresh your complexion:
- Superficial: A mild peel containing glycolic or salicylic acid can resurface the uppermost layer of the skin to address dryness, sun damage, and signs of aging. These peels require minimal downtime and can be received in a series.
- Medium: With a slightly stronger peel, we can penetrate the skin deeper to address acne scars, fine lines, and pigmentation.
- Deep: We can administer a significantly stronger formula for sun damage and deep wrinkles. These peels provide noticeable results, with a slightly longer recovery time, because they renew the deeper layers of your skin.
Peel Treatments
V.I. Peel
A V.I. Peel can address sun damage, age spots, and hyperpigmentation to improve the tone and texture of your skin. After the medium-grade peel, we can treat multiple areas, including the face, neck, and chest. You can enjoy more radiant skin afterward.
MicroPeel
A MicroPeel is a superficial chemical peel that can smooth and soften your skin, brighten your complexion, minimize pore size, and reduce discoloration with minimal social downtime. The peel can refresh your appearance if you are experiencing mild to moderate signs of aging.
Jessner Peel
The Jessner Peel can improve wrinkles, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. It exfoliates the uppermost layers of skin, dries out active acne, dislodges blackheads, reduces shallow wrinkling and scarring, helps lighten hyperpigmentation, and improves the overall appearance and health of sun-damaged, acne-prone, aging skin.
Cosmelan Treatment
With a two-step topical treatment system, Cosmelan treatments can reduce stubborn, dense pigmentation and blotchiness. It is effective for treating hyperpigmentation and melasma. The ingredients of Cosmelan lighten existing pigmentation and regulate future melanin production. Effective in all types of melasma. It is safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-VI). You can receive the treatment all year round to rejuvenate your skin, and it can also benefit acne patients.
Benefits
Peels come with several benefits, including:
- Improved skin texture: If aging or sun exposure affects the texture of your skin, improving the collagen and elastin levels in your skin can help you enjoy a smoother appearance.
- Reduced acne scars: Resurfacing your skin with chemical peels can improve the appearance of scars for a brighter complexion.
- Decrease large pores: We can minimize the appearance of enlarged pores by removing dead skin cells.
- Lasting results: If you take good care of your skin, you can enjoy results for years to come.
- More youthful appearance: With brighter, more radiant skin, you can enjoy looking more youthful.
- Less hyperpigmentation: Chemical peels can break down dark spots caused by UV exposure, resulting in a more even skin tone.
- Customizable: We can recommend a single treatment or a series of peels for more comprehensive rejuvenation.
Candidates
If you want to rejuvenate your skin and reduce signs of aging or sun damage, you are likely a good candidate for a chemical peel. Suitable candidates would like to improve their skin tone and texture after sun exposure or aging compromised their skin. Others have hyperpigmentation from melasma, fine lines, wrinkles, or acne scars that they would like to improve their appearance.
Since peels are customizable, we can create a personalized plan to rejuvenate your skin based on your condition, skin type, and texture. Suitable candidates must take good care of their bodies, and you must have realistic expectations about what you can achieve with the treatment.
Consultation
During your consultation, we will ask about your lifestyle, current medications, medical history, and any treatments you had in the past. We will also ask about your skincare routine at home, and we can recommend products to help you take care of your skin. If you have a condition such as eczema or rosacea, you must let us know so we can create an effective treatment plan. We will consider your Fitzpatrick skin type to determine the best peel for your needs. (3)
Preparation & Treatment Process
To prepare for a chemical peel, you should protect your skin from sun exposure that could damage your skin. You must also discontinue retinoids and delay any dermal filler appointments or facials before your treatment. You will need to arrive with a clean face, without makeup or skincare products.
During your treatment, we will cleanse your skin and apply a topical anesthetic for a comfortable treatment. We will spread the peel evenly over your skin so the formula can exfoliate it and stimulate collagen production for a designated period. The length of your treatment will depend on the strength of your peel and the condition of your skin. Afterward, we will cleanse your skin to remove the formula.
After Your Treatment
After your treatment, you can return to most of your normal activities but must avoid excessive sun exposure. You should not wash your face for 24 hours. Over the next 5-7 days, you may notice some peeling depending on the type of peel you receive. Be sure to cleanse your skin with a gentle moisturizer (we can recommend skincare products for the best results at home).
Additional Treatments at Alexus Medspa
Fillers
Fillers restore volume to your skin for a plumper, more youthful appearance. If you recently lost volume from aging or weight fluctuations, we can quickly refresh your appearance with a minimally invasive injectable. Some fillers are also designed to stimulate collagen production and renew your skin over time. Thin lips and lines around the lips are common with aging. We can restore volume to your lips with dermal fillers for a smoother, plumper appearance.
Botox®
Botox® reduces the repetitive muscle movements from facial expressions that wear on your skin and causes fine lines and wrinkles to appear. If you notice signs of aging, the injectable can help you enjoy smoother skin and prevent further signs of facial aging. We can administer the treatment directly into the muscle, and over the next 24-48 hours, the formula will settle into the skin for lasting results.
